Gastro Roster: Weekly Rankings #4
Am I the only one feeling like these past few days have just been a drag? At least the food has been good! Here are this week’s food rankings from highest to lowest.
1. Orange Chicken
If you had told me that the best thing I would eat this past week was Orange Chicken from a Thai restaurant, I would’ve laughed in your face. This is a moment straight out of the food diaspora of Gilmore Girls. I’m not a big fan of chicken, but we saw it on the menu and thought how bad could it be? Even though the sauce was a little bit on the sweet side, that chicken was perfectly crispy with no extra fatty bits or breading. My only complaint is that they could’ve put more on our plate.
2. Salad Bowl
When I eat lunch alone, I don’t always feel like putting a lot of effort into the meal. That’s when I make something like this, greens, protein, and something fun. I’ve been loving this raw sun-dried tomato hummus from Whole Foods. I put it in this bowl and added some micro arugula, a heart of palm, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze and it made the perfect weekday lunch.
3. Baked Mussels
Another one of my favorites from our local sushi joint. I know mussels and oysters put people off because of the texture but how could you go wrong with a creamy filling on top?
4. Burger Night
We had some leftover potatoes from our crab boil and I didn’t want them to go bad, so the easiest meal I could think of was homemade burgers and fries. My mom made some coleslaw and naturally, I had to have half a plate of pickles. Are you a pickles or no pickles person…?
5. Fries To-Go
These fries were interesting…
I’m not one to turn down fries, but they didn’t have a lot going on. It could’ve been because I got them to go. I did enjoy the thinness of these fries but the coating of herbs didn’t add anything. With some ketchup, they made for a nice midday snack.
This brings us to the end of this week’s rankings, and we had some controversial sides and condiments! So…are you a pickles person, do you like ketchup? Let me know in the comments below.
