Arbitrary Rules I Follow & Why I Think You Should Follow Them Too

I’m telling you some of my trade secrets so definitely don’t share this one with your friends. Let’s start strong with my strictest rule which is wearing sunglasses everywhere. I like the added mystery, I love the drama and as an actor, it helps me manifest the life that I will be stepping into very soon. There’s also so much added surveillance and policing thanks to the virality of TikTok so I like the protection that sunglasses provide. I also wear corrective lenses anyway so the effort of switching back to my regular glasses is simply not worth it. If you want to be the most interesting person in the room, then you need to unapologetically wear your sunglasses everywhere you go.

This next one is based on superstition so it has been deeply backed by scientific research and medical journals published by your favorite tía or abuela. I NEVER recount a dream before I’ve had something to eat. If you don’t eat something before you tell someone about your dream it is destined to come true. You might think that you might benefit from telling someone a good dream before eating something, but that is simply encouraging bad luck.

My most controversial rule is having a warm shot of espresso at night. I refuse to have decaf at night. I don’t mind having a caffeinated chai or Earl Grey, but you won’t find me drinking decaf coffee at night. I feel like my caffeine buzz gets eaten up by any nighttime spiraling and I sleep like a baby. If you are prone to overthinking, consider drinking some warm coffee before bed.

This last one is golden, I pull a tarot spread for the week ahead every Sunday afternoon. I started doing this two years ago and I’m addicted. I’m a very impatient person, so I always like to know what’s coming next, in that way, tarot eases my anxieties. My goal in life is also to be the kooky aunt that can tell your future.
