Gastro Roster: Weekly Rankings #2
I try to do a lot of cooking at home rather than eating out, but we were celebrating a birthday this week! Here are this week’s rankings ranked from highest to lowest.
Reuben Sandwich
A very gluten sandwich is number 1? I know, very uncharacteristic of me, sorry! My main critique of specialty sandwiches is that the bread overpowers the toppings. The meat gets its chance to shine at Continental Delicatessen and their sauerkraut gives it a nice zing. We tried their potato salad with it and it was surprisingly delicate, the potato was shredded instead of diced. Overall, I think it would satisfy anyone’s craving for a Reuben sandwich.
2. Instant Pot Stew
One of the few home-cooked meals, I enjoyed this week. I am famous for my instant pot stews. They make a great weeknight meal where most of the cooking is done for you. My favorite part about this meal is that it’s comforting after a long day and an easy way to get rid of some o the veggies that are starting to take a turn. Also curious to know what some of your go-to weeknight meals are.
3. In-N-Out Burger
My go-to order: Protein-style double-double hamburger, regular onions, and a well-done fry. I begged my sister to bring me something on her way back home because all that was left in the fridge towards the end of the week was hummus and an apple. My Cali girl is showing because I will defend In-N-Out until the end of time if it’s good enough for my King Anthony Bourdain, then it’s good enough for me.
4. Silverlake Ramen
I haven’t had ramen in so long and was pleasantly surprised by this bowl from Silverlake Ramen. I feel like whenever I have ramen it’s so rich that it becomes my main meal for the day. This broth was tasty but it felt like more of an everyday meal which I appreciated. I didn’t snap a pic of them but I also enjoyed their California hand rolls. If I hadn’t already had so many great meals this week I could’ve ranked this higher.
5. Fogo De Chao
Sad that my dad’s birthday dinner ranked the lowest on the list. I’ve been to many of their other locations but their newest one was a letdown for many reasons which I won’t list here. The whole idea is that it’s a take on Brazillian churrasco so servers walk around with grilled meat on sticks and you can also grab whatever sides you like from their buffet bar. The things I enjoyed most about this meal were the lamb and my family.
Enough about me though, I want to hear from you. What was the best thing YOU ate this week?
