Core Exercises to Activate your Voice

One of my yoga teachers used to joke about having an extra gene that gave her an obsession with core exercises. I never thought I would teach any abdominal work, especially considering that in 3rd grade I was so embarrassed because I couldn’t do full sit ups. I still have trouble with them, but I’m presenting this sequence anyway!

So, when should you do this sequence and why? Well, our core is the center of our ego, willpower and self-confidence. When I begin to notice myself slipping into my insecurities I find that a quick plank pose can dislodge my imbalances. This is not a cure all, but the warmth that this sequence will generate within you encourages action. I find that by stimulating my core, I connect to my will and the voice of my ego who motivates me. I have included a list of featured postures. I recommend holding each pose for 16 beats or 16 reps and you can work your way up to 32 beats/reps. As always, make your remix, club mix, etc. and customize as you see fit. Also, please practice with a fair amount of space; when you watch the sequence you’ll see why ;)

Featured Poses:

  • Marjariasana (Cat Pose)

  • Bitilasana (Cow Pose)

  • Legs Up the Wall Crunches

  • Single Leg Crossbody Leg Lift
